Centre Bourse, Marseille

A discreet veil

Description

The extension of the Centre Bourse offers the building a new life and allows it to be in full echo with the evolution of the district and the development of the city of Marseille. The project involves the creation of a light and transparent envelope, consisting of a glass facade, sheltered by veils that unfurl over the three levels of the building and along its entire length.
This envelope offers new facades to Galeries Lafayette, which unfold as a transparent and glazed ribbon. The drawing is continuous and enhances the angles bringing a real fluidity to the wandering and creates a protected urban space.

At night, the lighting makes the whole a signal in the city, a benchmark at the neighborhood level. The veil that dresses the facade represents a real technical feat.
This double-curvature structure, positive and negative, is composed of a surface of galvanized lacquered sheet panels with facets and an underside of metal slats in the shape of a wave.
The new Centre Bourse represents an additional 6,240 m2 of space to accommodate the Galeries Lafayette and major retailers, an extension of 12m from the foot of the existing façade rue Bir-Hakeim and Queen Elizabeth Street.
